It’s been 95 years since the first away match of the Valencian side against Athletic Club.
Valencia CF will face Athletic Club next Sunday, May 10 at 16:15 at San Mamés Stadium in the match corresponding to Matchday 35 of LaLiga EA Sports 2025–26 season.
It will be a special encounter, as it will mark our 100th match at San Mamés (including both the old and the current stadium of the “Lions”).
Valencia CF first visited San Mamés Stadium ninety-five years ago, on January 6, 1931, in a friendly match in which they won 5–2, with goals from Picolín (2), Jesús Navarro (2), and Juan Costa. For Athletic Club, the scorers were Guillermo Gorostiza and José Iraragorri Unamuno.
Valencia CF played at “La Catedral” until 2013, when Athletic Club built the new San Mamés. On October 6 of that same year, the Valencian side became the first LaLiga EA Sports team to earn a point at the ‘Lions’’ new home. Éver Banega scored to put Valencia ahead, but Mikel Rico equalized.
To date, the club has played ninety-nine away matches at San Mamés (across both the old and new stadiums), with a record of nineteen wins, twenty-four draws, and fifty-six defeats.
