Maffeo: "We have to stick together"

Valencia CF defender Pablo Maffeo gave his assessment of the 1-0 loss to Sevilla FC on Friday night

“I’m gutted about the defeat and the way we started, but the good thing is that there’s another match on Tuesday, which has to be like a final for us.”

“They got the better of us from dead ball situations. I feel responsible for the foul that led to the goal, and want to apologise to everyone, but we should let this serve as a chance for us to improve. We had chances too, and we have to keep going. We are the ones who are here, and we have to stick together; we’ve been in situations like this before, and we’re going to pull through.”

Turning things around

“It has to start with us. With the fans' support, it’s much easier. Valencia CF are a family, and we need to act like one. We’re all in this together, and we need to train harder than ever -because it’s time to show some real grit and make a statement to turn the situation around.”

The next game against Deportivo Alavés

“If we win, everything will look different. We have to focus on winning that 'final' and give it our all. If we give 100%, we have a team capable of much more than we've received so far.”
