Pepelu: "People want results, not explanations"
The Valencia CF player talks after Matchday 5
The coach’s post-match press conference
After Valencia CF’s 1-0 defeat away to Sevilla FC, coach Carlos Corberán spoke to the media in his post-match press conference.
Turning the situation around
I cannot speak about hypothetical situations; I can talk about the fact that the situation needs to be turned around, and I am one of the people responsible for doing so. I am focusing my efforts on turning it around.
Injuries
In these circumstances, one of the reasons we aren't getting results is the number of players we are losing to injuries. Our resources are being limited. We have been hit hard by this aspect since preseason. The responsibility lies with everyone. I’m not a medical expert, but we haven't changed anything regarding our fitness or medical routines. Last year, we were one of the teams with the fewest muscle injuries, whereas this year it is the opposite; we are losing players who could help us be more competitive. We are focusing on playing better -that is where I need to contribute the most. César has a hamstring injury.
Do you feel up to the task?
I always say that my enthusiasm and energy are the same as they were on day one. I don't think answering that question (about his aptitude for the job) right after a defeat is appropriate. We need to get results. Failing to win means we aren't achieving our objective. I accept the criticism. I cannot ask any more of the players because they have given absolutely everything.
A message for the fans
The fans aren't looking for words right now; they want actions. We have to give everything we’ve got in Vitoria to turn this situation around.
