MATCH REPORT: Valencia CF lose 1-0 to Sevilla FC

Valencia CF were handed a defeat by Sevilla FC on LaLiga Matchday 5, as the opposition scored late in the game to make it 1-0.

During the opening minutes, both teams vied for control of possession, with Valencia CF opting to play the ball out from the back. They issued their first warning when David Otorbi made a run in behind the defence down the right flank. He delivered in a cross and opposition goalkeeper Odysseas had to intervene to prevent Danjuma from getting a shot off.

After twenty minutes, César Tárrega had to be substituted due to an injury, and Iker Córdoba came on. 

The remainder of the first half was characterised by its tightness and high intensity. Deep into stoppage time, Isaac Romero threatened  with a volley from inside the box, but sent the ball wide of goal.

SECOND HALF

Four minutes into the second half, Dimitrievski had to save a header from Kike Salas off a corner. On the next set piece, Stassin also headed the ball, hitting the post from his effort. 

Subsequently, Harvey Elliott and Pablo Maffeo entered the game from the bench.

Valencia CF sought to catch their opponents off guard on the counter-attack, but Sevilla FC thwarted them. The home side's attacks were halted by a solid Gayà, who contained both Miguel Sierra and Ejuke in individual duels. Shortly after, Valencia CF came very close to taking the lead on the counter-attack when Otorbi struck the crossbar.

The devastating blow came after eighty minutes, when Sevilla FC broke the deadlock with a header from Juan Iglesias, meeting a free kick across to the back post.

Valencia CF were unable to come back, losing the game 1-0. They will now travel to Vitoria to face Deportivo Alavés on Tuesday, September 15th at 8pm.
