Former Valencia CF player Sunny Sunday welcomes the Fundació VCF Cadete at the MLS Next in the United States

The 2008 Copa del Rey winner with Valencia CF is a coach in the youth ranks of FC Dallas

The Valencia CF cadet side is in the United States to compete during this month of April in the MLS Next, an U-15 and U-16 tournament organised by the MLS (Major League Soccer), in which the main MLS franchises and some of the top academies from around the world take part.

Stephen Obayan Sunday, known as ‘Sunny’, joined Valencia CF in the summer of 2007 after his spell at Club Polideportivo Ejido . The Nigerian midfielder played 21 matches for the Valencia side and won the Copa del Rey in that same season.

Fundació VCF Cadete schedule

The Fundació VCF Cadete are competing in this MLS Next U-15, which takes place from March 27th to April 4th at IMG Academy in Bradenton (Florida). In this competition, academies from the USA, Argentina, Mexico, France, Germany, Brazil and Japan, among other countries, come together.

The Valencia side have progressed past the group stage after beating Real Salt Lake of Utah (USA) by four goals to one and St. Louis City SC of Missouri (USA) by three goals to nil, and drawing one-all against CF Montreal of Canada. Today, the draw will take place to determine their next opponent.

Valencia CF Academy have already taken part in previous editions of this prestigious MLS Next tournament, finishing as runners-up in 2022 and winning the title in the U-15 category in 2024.
