Cheryshev: "We have to go out there like lions at Mestalla"
Denis Cheryshev's goal at San Siro was one of the bright spots of a dificult night for Valencia CF in the Champions League. An away goal in the 4-1 defeat provides hope of an heroic comeback on March 10th, when Atalanta visit Mestalla, and the Russian spoke to Movistar+ Liga de Campeones after the game to analyse the performance.
"It was a game with lots of chances for both sides. We conceded a lot today, and they had chances to score a lot of goals. We can't allow that. We have to draw conclusions from this game. They scored a lot of goals, we didn't put away our chances and we need to learn the lesson from today because of our fans. This keeps on going, on Saturday we have an important game and we will think about the comeback after that," he explained to the Spanish TV channel.
"We can't concede as many goals. It's very clear what we have to think about and what we have to work on. We shouldn't offer so many chances. We are training hard. We have to be more focused on certain occasions, and we can't let in as many goals."
Cheryshev had another chance in the game, but was thwarted by the goalkeeper.
"I didn't know whether to shoot first time, and the goalkeeper smothered me when I controlled the ball. At Mestalla we need to go out there like lions and go after Atalanta. Footballers live for nights like that; we need to have faith and believe in ourselves. The fans will be behind us and we will have to go all-out."
