Diego López: "I have no doubt that we are going to turn the situation around"
The forward reviews the regional derby defeat
Diego López reflected on his 100th game for Valencia CF, speaking after the 0-2 loss to Villarreal CF
The impact of the penalty
Football is a contact sport, and they can't order a review of that move when the contact is so light. Watching football in slow motion isn't football. I think we were having a good first half. The goal came in the 45th minute, and that really annoyed us, because the feeling was very good then, with good play and chances. I think the only thing missing in the first half was a goal, and conceding bothers us, because in the end, it changed the situation and changed everything.
The second half
We wanted to use that frustration from the penalty they called against us to quickly turn things around. And I think we came out a little hastily, losing a lot of balls. We conceded the second goal off a counterattack, which was a bit of a blow, because the feeling in the first half was very good. From then on, the game got a little crazy, and that didn't suit us.
We have to keep working and turn things around -and I have no doubt we will. We’ll all stick together as one.
Getting back up
Today we came into the game convinced we'd get the three points, because of what the game was, because of the situation we were in. It just wasn’t to be. Tomorrow we'll start working to win the Copa del Rey match, which shouldn't be downplayed. It's important to me because, in the end, winning also gives you that confidence you need.
And we'll start working on the Copa del Rey match tomorrow and continue to grow throughout the week, in order to get into Saturday's match against Real Madrid in good shape and get the three points.
100 games with Valencia CF
I wish things had gone differently. In one sense, I'm happy -if you can call it happy. Hopefully I'll have many more games here. Very happy to be here, because of everything this club and these fans have given me. I hope to repay them with a better situation.
