Mark Fenwick: “Today, we launch a definitive and ambitious project that symbolizes the future we want to build together”

The ceremony marking the resumption of construction on the Nou Mestalla featured a speech by Mark Fenwick of Fenwick Iribarren Architects, the architect behind the design of Valencia CF’s new stadium. Fenwick highlighted the main features of the stadium and the reasons why fans will enjoy an enhanced experience on every level.

"Thank you all for being here. Finally, after 16 years, we are back. Today is a magnificent day for Valencia CF. It marks a turning point in the history of the Club and the city. We are here to begin a new chapter: the resumption of construction on the Nou Mestalla, a dream that has been on hold for 16 years and is finally coming to life today.

Resuming this project is not just about finishing an incomplete structure; it is about reaffirming our commitment to the city of Valencia and, above all, to the fans of Valencia CF. Today, we begin with a definitive, ambitious, and exciting project that symbolizes the future we want to build together.

The Nou Mestalla is not just a football stadium; it will be a temple where Valencia CF fans can experience every match in a unique way. For this, we have brought together an incredible team of technicians and architects who have been working on this project from the start. Since then, we have built three stadiums for a World Cup and have over 50 accredited stadiums in our portfolio. Alongside us are engineering firms such as Schlaich Bergermann & Partner and MC2, who have designed countless stadiums worldwide and ensure innovation and safety in every detail.

We also have expert stadium operations consultants, Grupotec, who have done excellent work on the installations, and FCC Construcción, our trusted partners from previous projects. They are experts in football stadiums, having worked with us on our first stadium, RCDE Stadium, once named the best stadium in the world. They have also recently worked on the stadiums of Real Madrid and Atlético de Madrid.

The vision behind this stadium is centered on Valencia CF fans. We want it to be a place where every supporter feels part of something big. That’s why we’ve incorporated the latest trends in stadium design for safety and comfort, with wider access points, ergonomic seating, and cutting-edge technology. It will feature unique commercial options, including gastronomic spaces, shops, and entertainment areas, making the stadium a vibrant destination 365 days a year.

Its design also includes multifunctional and commercial spaces that ensure long-term viability, transforming it into an economic engine for the Club and the community. And, of course, it will offer fans an unparalleled viewing experience, designed to make every cheer, every victory, and every emotion intensely felt.

We want this stadium to reflect the city and culture of Valencia. It will be a truly Mediterranean stadium, with terraces open to the sea, letting in the light and sky of Valencia, and a roof that not only protects but also filters light to create a unique atmosphere while amplifying the chants and cheers of the fans. It will be a tribute to Valencia, its roots, and its people.
