Juan Costa and his hat-trick for the history of Valencia CF in LaLiga
The former player from Girona was also part of Levante UD for three seasons
On 29 November 1931 Juan Costa (10-02-1911/25-02-1985) made history with Valencia CF (then Valencia FC) in LaLiga. He scored the first goal for Valencia CF in the top national competition, but he did not settle for that - he was also the author of the first hat-trick ever seen at Mestalla in that championship.
This historic feat came against Real Irún, on matchday two of the 1931-32 season, with the visiting goalkeeper being Antonio Emery, grandfather of future Valencia CF head coach Unai Emery. The final score against the team from Gipuzkoa was 5-1 for our side, with Costa scoring the first, second and fifth goals.
After a short spell at RCD Espanyol due to the Spanish Civil War of 1936, Costa returned to Valencia CF after the end of the conflict, but later decided to join Levante UD.

This coming Sunday, 15 February at 18:30 at the Ciutat de València, another derby will be played, in which our side will be looking for the win.
