Valencia CF and the Puçol City Council launch the ‘Claramunt Year’ at Mestalla
The Club and the municipality work together to pay tribute to the Valencianist legend on the 80th anniversary of his birth
On the morning of Friday, February 13, 2026, the ‘Claramunt Year’ was inaugurated at Mestalla. An event that kicks off the various activities that will take place during 2026 in tribute to the figure of the Valencianist legend Pepe Claramunt (07/10/1946). In 1999 he was already named an honorary son of Puçol.
“You don’t expect this kind of tribute. I want to thank everyone for seeing that people value the work I have done for the benefit of everyone. This makes the Club great, it stays in your heart for life. I am grateful both to Valencia CF and to the Puçol City Council,” says the Valencianist legend, Claramunt.
The event was attended by Javier Solís – General Director of Valencia CF –, Fernando Giner – President of AFVCF –, Paz Carceller – Mayor of Puçol –, José María Esteve – Councillor of Culture –, Pepa Deogracia – Councillor of Sports – and Carlos Esteve – Councillor of Youth. During the day, they also visited the Experience Center at Nou Mestalla to learn in detail about what will be the new home of Valencianism from the summer of 2027.
“It represents recognition of a key and historic figure of Valencia CF. Claramunt had a golden era and transmits the values of Valencianism wherever he goes. He is an indispensable figure for the Club. Remembering those who have defended this jersey is a sign of greatness that takes us back to other times when football was different, but the passion was the same. Continuing to remember them is very important,” says the Club’s General Director, Javier Solís.
Pepe Claramunt has undoubtedly been one of the most important players in the history of Valencia CF. Valencian, captain, international, undisputed starter, and one of the best midfielders of the team at Mestalla and in national and international football. He wore the Valencianist jersey for twelve seasons, competing in almost 450 matches and scoring 90 goals, in addition to winning the 1967 Copa del Rey and the spectacular league of the 1970-71 season.
“Claramunt is an emblematic resident of our municipality. He has always carried the name of Puçol to the highest levels of sport. He is an international figure and a footballer ‘by nature.’ It is an honor to pay tribute to him on his 80th anniversary,” explains the Mayor of Puçol, Paz Carceller.
At an international level, he debuted at just 22 years old with the Spanish senior national team, and his level was such that he became the first Valencian captain of ‘La Roja’. He played 23 matches and scored 4 goals.
“Any tribute directed at those footballers who have defended this crest is well-deserved, and even more so for people like Claramunt, a man of the town who can enjoy these moments because, in the end, that is what life leaves us: the affection he had on the field, transmitting it to those outside, and now the other way around. They are part of that history so we can tell the younger generations that this crest has been defended by footballers who have won titles, who have been internationals, and who are ‘from home,’” highlights the President of AFVCF, Fernando Giner.
