The legacy of Torino Red

Valencia CF and PUMA have officially unveiled the team's 2026/27 home kit, which will be worn in the last season at Mestalla before the move to the new stadium.

The new home kit pays homage to the club's identity and legacy, celebrating the enduring presence of Mestalla by combining the two most recurring colours in club history: White, which has been associated with Valencia CF since its founding in 1919, and Torino Red, the most frequently used alternative colour.

The combination is the main innovation of a kit destined to occupy a special place in Valencia CF history. Learn more about the history and legacy of Torino Red below:

THE FIRST KNOWN USE

• The first reference known to the Historical Heritage Department at the VCF Foundation dates back to March 4th, 1928, on the occasion of a cup match between Valencia FC and Sevilla FC. In those days, the home team changed their colours as a sign of courtesy as the host side, instead of the visiting team.

• From that moment on, there are numerous historical references to Valencia FC wearing red, such as the kits worn years later by iconic players such as Puchades, Claramunt and Kempes.

DEBUT IN THE PRIMERA DIVISIÓN AT MESTALLA

• The Torino Red colour was prominent in Mestalla's debut in the top flight, which took place on November 29th, 1931. Referring to that game, in which Valencia FC beat Real Irún 5-1, the newspapers highlighted the kit.

USE IN FINALS

• Throughout history, the color red has been associated with Valencia CF in numerous matches, including finals. In the 1930s, this kit was used in the first final in the club's history, the 1934 Copa del Rey (Real Madrid 2-1 Valencia CF) at Montjuïc, and also in the 1937 final (Valencia CF 0-1 Levante FC) at Sarrià.
• In the 1940s, red was once again the chosen garment for the 1946 final (Real Madrid 3-1 Valencia CF) and throughout that decade there are numerous references to our players wearing this colour.

• In 1970 Valencia CF once again played in red in a Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid (3-1) and the colour continued to be used repeatedly throughout the following years, as can be seen in this photograph of a game against Hércules taken by Viña in 1977.

RED IN EUROPE

• In the 1960s, Valencia CF brought the colour to European competitions such as the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup. One version, in 1967, included a white stripe on the chest, collar and cuffs and was used in England against Leeds United.
• During the 1980s and 1990s, Valencia CF used different red kits, in various shades and with different combinations.

TORINO RED IN THE 21ST CENTURY

• After launching a collector's edition in 2012/13, the club brought back Torino Red for their official kit, this time in collaboration with PUMA for the 2021/22 away strip. Last season, they presented another design with its own distinct identity: Torino Red in a single colour scheme for the most nostalgic fans, with burgundy undertones and Mediterranean Orange details. This season, the 2026/27 home kit combines white with Torino Red, a reference that gives a special character to the shirt that will celebrate the enduring legacy of Mestalla.
