The Valencia CF legend took the honorary kick-off in the match against Atlético de Madrid
This 2026 has been declared as ‘Any Claramunt’ on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of his birth. Valencia CF and the Ajuntament de Puçol are working together with the aim of continuing to highlight his enormous legacy at the Club.
In the build-up to the match against Atlético de Madrid, Claramunt was received by the Club’s General Director -Javier Solís-, the Director of the Fundació VCF -Inma Ibáñez-, and the ambassadors -Miguel Tendillo and Miguel Ángel Bossio-.
In addition, Pepe was in charge of taking the honorary kick-off and was accompanied by Ricardo Arias, with whom he coincided in the 1976-77 and 1977-78 seasons (Claramunt’s final campaigns and Arias’ beginnings).
Claramunt and his career at Valencia CF and with the National Team
The man from Puçol has been, without a doubt, one of the most important players in the history of Valencia CF. Valencian, captain, international, undisputed starter and one of the best midfielders of the Mestalla team and of national and international football.

He wore the Valencia CF jersey for twelve seasons, in which he played almost 450 matches and scored 90 goals, as well as winning the 1967 Cup and the spectacular 1970-71 LaLiga title.
At international level, he made his debut at just 22 years old with the senior Spanish national team and his level was such that he became the first Valencian captain of ‘La Roja’. He played 23 matches and scored 4 goals.
