Maffeo: "I didn't doubt coming here for a second"
The new arrival talks about joining Valencia CF
Valencia CF signing Pablo Maffeo fielded questions from the media at his official presentation.
The events of recent months
“Nothing in particular happened. The opportunity arose to sign with Olympiacos FC, but then I received a call from my agent who told me about Valencia CF's interest, and I said yes to it. I only wanted to come here; I didn't hesitate for a second.”
His conversation with the club
“They told me what they want it to be like here and how I can contribute.”
Adapting to the club
“It's been very good. I knew everyone from playing against them before, and I had a call with the coach, and that was enough. I'm very happy and settled in.”
His contribution to the team
“I can bring commitment and intensity. In those twenty minutes against RC Celta, you could see how much I want to play at Mestalla, to do well, and to want to stay here much longer.”
Improved results
“When players come here, it’s to improve the team. We have to take things one step at a time. We’re all in this together, with the greatest enthusiasm in the world, so that one day we can play in European competition.”
His debut against RC Celta
“We have to be more aggressive in both penalty areas. There were also positive things, and that is that we stuck together as a team.”
His contract
“Obviously, my goal is to stay here for a long time.”
His position
“I’ve played for many years in either a back five or back four. I’ll try to give the coach what he asks of me; I’ll always give 100%.”
Corberán
“From what little I’ve seen of him, he’s someone who demands a lot from you and pushes you to the limit, and I want him to push me to the limit in everything -because I think I can take another step forward. We haven’t seen Pablo Maffeo at his best yet. He told me he was going to bring out the best in me and that we were going to work together. With his knowledge and his work ethic, he can help me.”
Mestalla
“It’s exciting to play here. As an opposing player, it’s a very difficult ground; you suffer here. With this being the last season at Mestalla, we all have to be united -both the team and the fans.”
His arrival at Valencia CF
“I also wanted to come here for personal reasons; I have a daughter here. Also, it was attractive to come here because when you see the team and the fans competing well. When you come here with the away team, it’s a stadium where you think, ‘I’d like to enjoy this and not suffer playing against them.’”
High standards
“What happens in the dressing room, stays in the dressing room. We know our goals, and we're also excited and eager. We’re a very committed squad.”
