Goals from Rioja and Guerra earn the 2-1 win
There was a great 2-1 victory for Valencia CF against Celta Vigo in LALIGA EA Sports on Matchday 22. Goals from Luis Rioja and Javi Guerra earned three very important points at Mestalla.
The opening minutes saw a counterattack by Javi Guerra and a shot from Borja Iglesias that went just wide of Mamardashvili's goal. These were the few signs of danger in the first half hour, and the most notable moment was a Diego López cutback converted by Hugo Duro, which was subsequently overruled for a previous foul.
A header from Duro also went wide, as Valencia CF enjoyed several chances. The eventual opener came from winger Rioja.
Guerra set up Rioja with a great assist, and the winger finished off inside the post to make it 1-0.
The lead would not last long, as a few minutes after the break, Pablo Durán would take advantage of one of the few dangerous approaches by RC Celta to level.
Carlos Corberán reacted by bringing on Umar Sadiq to shake up the frontline, looking to regain the lead in the last half hour of play.
Rioja put the ball into the area from a set piece and Enzo Barrenechea was very close to finishing from inside the six-yard box.
Valencia CF got their reward for their efforts in the 67th minute, when Javi Guerra made it 2-1.
Luis Rioja provided the assist past the opposition defence, and Guerra converted into the top corner.
Valencia CF defended the advantage in the final stretch. Mouctar Diakhaby would also come on, for his first minutes at Mestalla since his comeback from a serious injury, and received a well-deserved ovation from the fans.
