VCF Mestalla reach season’s midway point
VCF Mestalla ended the first half of the Segunda B Grupo III-B season this past Sunday against Deportivo Alcoyano, suffering a 1-2 defeat despite a positive display from the team.
So far this term, VCF Mestalla have 8 points, courtesy of 1 victory, 5 draws and 3 defeats. They currently lie sixth in the group, and are the second highest scoring side with 11 goals -6 of which have come from the division’s top marksman, Fran Navarro.
Although wins have been hard to come by, VCF Mestalla have been ahead on the scoresheet in 5 of their 9 games, although difficulties in converting chances have proven to be a hindrance, as coach Óscar Fernández acknowledges.
"Our lack of effectiveness is hurting us. We cannot hide the reality. We have only achieved one victory in nine games, and we have to be honest. This is the level we are at, and we have to reverse it,” says the second team boss.
As for the team’s role as a proving ground for young talents, some 8 Juvenil aged players have been fielded by VCF Mestalla this season: Jesús Vázquez, Joseda, H. González, Facu González, Iván Muñoz, Fran Pérez, Pedro Alemañ and David Ruiz. They are the reserve side with the most players of Juvenil age used in all of Segunda B so far.
Players have also ascended to the first team, with debuts for 4 VCF Mestalla players for Valencia CF in the last month: Jesús Vázquez, Guillem Molina, K. Koba Leïn and Kevin Sibille have participated in Copa del Rey and LaLiga contests in 2020/21.
