Diakhaby: "We have to give our all against RC Deportivo"
The defender talks about the result at Mestalla
The coach's post-match press conference
Valencia CF coach Carlos Corberán, gave his reaction to the team's 0-1 loss to Real Betis Balompié in LaLiga EA Sports.
TACTICAL ASSESSMENT OF THE GAME
"We had to avoid unforced losses of possession to prevent Betis from launching counterattacks. When recovering possession, if you can't create danger, you need to try not to give the ball back to the opponents in order to maintain continuity in your play. The formation with a back five didn't prevent Valencia CF from winning the game; I don't see it that way because we could have achieved more in attack.
I think the team were able to defend and press while attacking. The chances we conceded were related to counter-attack situations. The opposition got a counterattack and managed to take the lead. They had had several similar opportunities beforehand; they were able to hurt us on the counter."
VICTORY AS THE MAIN OBJECTIVE
"Us winning games is what the fans want. The atmosphere and their support were sensational and very well received by the team, who gave their all until the very last move, but unfortunately, we couldn't achieve victory tonight, and we are very disappointed because there is nothing we want more than to win in front of the fans at Mestalla. We accept their criticism."
COMMITMENT
“When the team give so much, you're left with the feeling that we've done everything possible and that we need to keep improving to achieve more than we can possibly believe.”
THE TRANSFER MARKET
“On the attacking side, we'll explore the possibilities of adding one or more players to the squad. The situation with Arnau Martínez is close to being concluded, and that would complete the defensive side. The focus is on the attack. We need to take that step forward in terms of our attacking options, but in the meantime, it's our responsibility to perform at the best possible level in attack.”
THE GAME
“Winning is a combination of managing the different phases of the game. The team were solid defensively, although as the minutes ticked by, our defence faltered; when you defend more than you attack, it's difficult to get out of your own half. We struggled to maintain our initial energy, and we need to find a way to achieve greater consistency -both offensively and defensively.”
“In the second half, we started better, then Betis took control, and then we ended up doing enough to really have avoided a defeat. After the goal, we didn't give up; the bench helped, and I want to highlight Otorbi, who left a very positive impression on us.”
THANKING THE FANS
“I don’t feel we have the right to demand anything from the fans. Today was one of those games where they really gave their all for us. It’s true that after the goal, the fans expressed their frustration, and that has to be taken out on those of us who are on the pitch and responsible for the results. It’s part of our job, but the support at Mestalla was excellent, and that unity we create by giving all we have on the pitch is essential to achieving better results.”
VCF ACADEMY PLAYERS’ PERFORMANCE
“I saw a very good performance from Otorbi today, and that’s extremely important. Adding players from the VCF Academy to our squad is crucial, like is also the case with Jaume Durà, and I hope they continue working as they have been. Seeing VCF Mestalla players in the first team, contributing, is good news for everyone.”
OTORBI
“The minutes he played today show that we have a very promising young player with great potential. He’s a young man with very interesting qualities, with an ability to take players on and great power, and we have to take advantage of that.”
