VCF Mestalla earn deserved victory against Lleida Esportiu (1-0)

VCF Mestalla played CE Lleida on Matchday 3 of Grupo III of the Segunda Federation, winning 1-0 thanks to a goal by Rodrigo Rodrigues in the final minutes.
The team's first victory of the season came in rainy conditions at the Antonio Puchades, and began with a double chance for Facu, who was denied by goalkeeper Iñaki Álvarez.
The Lleida goalkeeper had to take action again off a very dangerous cross from Pablo Gozálbez, who had another opportunity in the closing stretch of the first half: A pass from Joseda found Gozálbez who, with an intelligent feint, found himself through on goal, but struck just wide.
VCF Mestalla came closer and closer to scoring, and second half substitute Fran Pérez was only denied on the counterattack by the foot of Iñaki Álvarez. Another fast transition, moments later, fed Rodrigues for an effort again saved by the goalkeeper.
CE Lleida were pegged back and VCF Mestalla enjoyed chance after chance -including a penalty appeal for Diego López that was waved away.
The goal would finally come from a set piece. A corner from the right was delivered by Pedro Alemañ, and Rodrigues knocked it in from inside the six-yard box to earn a first triumph of the season for the team.
The next game for VCF Mestalla will be on Sunday, September 25th at 5:00pm, away to UE Olot.
