This past February, Valencia CF received a proposal from Telefónica to put together, in a direct and joint manner, a charity campaign. Santiago Cañizares was to be the face of the campaign, and the 'El sueño de Vicky' foundation the recipient of funds raised.
The proposal, part of Telefónica's Corporate Social Responsibility programme, received complete and immediate support from Valencia CF. Directly and indirectly, through conversations made with club sponsors, Valencia CF raised the economic resources necessary for a project aimed at helping childhood cancer research by a top Valencian hospital.
In September, Valencia CF informed Telefónica of their intention to reevaluate the dates forecast for the project, with the internal idea of finding a more ideal timeframe through which to carry it out. At no time was the project, whch Valencia CF had been working on for months, definitively ruled out.
Valencia CF are sad to hear of the recent public statements from Santiago Cañizares, a club legend who is highly valued by the club and our fans, as this specific project had in no way been ruled out for the future. The entity trust that, in a responsible way, our charitable contributions will continue, with projects run by the VCF Foundation -through which the club support numerous charitable causes.
