Match Report: VCFF earn hard-fought point in home opener against Real Madrid Women (1-1)
The match started at a high tempo at both ends with Asun and Jakobson providing menace down the left for either side with the opposition showcasing intricate ball movement in VCFF’s half of the pitch.
Real Madrid Women broke the deadlock through a Kosovani Asllani header from open play halfway through the first half. However, a minute later, Cristina Cubedo cancelled it out latching onto the ball and lashing a powerful low drive on the volley past the Real Madrid keeper following an Ana Torrodà corner kick delivery.
The match evened out as VCFF were looking to tore away on the break while Real Madrid were looking to knock the ball about trying to slip it through the steely VCFF backline. The first half finished one apiece at the Antonio Puchades ground.
The second half saw the opossition exerting pressure across all lines while José Bargués’side were looking to exploit the gaps to string passes together. Real Madrid Women were denied by the post over the hour mark as both set of players noticed a dip as the fast paced about the game continued.
Florencia Bonsegundo came close to scoring for VCFF following a great bursting run through the middle but Misa managed to clear the danger on 73 minutes.
The game opened up in the closing stages with a breathless end to end spell with both sides desperately searching for the winning goal but the final whistle blew and the match ended in a stalemate.
VCFF will look to maintain their unbeaten start to the season away at Granadilla Tenerife on Sunday 18th of October on matchday 3 of Primera Iberdrola.
