Match Report: Regional derby loss (2-0)
Valencia CF made a short trip to visit their cross-region opposition Villarreal CF for a Sunday regional derby at the Estadio de la Cerámica at 5 pm kick-off time (CET) on matchday 32 of LaLiga Santander.
Valencia CF had a slow start to the regional derby and despite enjoying a few half chances in the first minutes, former Valencia CF man Paco Alcácer made it 1-0 to Villarreal CF over the ten-minute mark in the first half.
Minutes later, Gerard Moreno kissed the inside of the post but thankfully the ball was scrambled away. Valencia CF were pegged back by Villarreal CF who had a passage of play in control right before the cooling break.
Valencia CF were forced into a substitution as José Luis Gaya pulled a muscle and former Villarreal CF man, Jaume Costa replaced him. There was another nasty twist to the tale as Gerard Moreno made it 2-0 to Villarreal CF in the closing minutes of the first half.
Valencia CF trailed by 2-0 at the intermission in the regional derby at the Estadio de la Cerámica.
Albert Celades made his second substitution at half-time Gonçalo Guedes came on for Ferran Torres as Valencia CF had a better start to the second half with Alessandro Florenzi trying his luck from outside the box but his shot dragged wide of the post.
The remainder of the half was played out without further incidents and the match finished 2-0 to Villarreal CF. Valencia CF will welcome Athletic Club on Wednesday the 1st of July at 7.30 pm kick-off time at Mestalla on matchday 33 of LaLiga Santander.
