Gracia: "Our improvement isn't being accompanied by results"
Valencia CF coach Javi Gracia addressed the media in his post-match press conference following the 0-1 defeat against Sevilla FC.
Concern about results
"I'm worried about the situation that the team are in, and the way that the games are going. We are competing well and not winning in some of them when we are close to the victory, then there are other games that are close and that we are losing because of small details."
League position
"Our position in the table is what it is. Logically, the situation is worrying at the moment; not my personal situation, but rather that which the team are in. We need to improve, and our improvement isn't being accompanied by results.
"From my position I try to be optimistic. In my day-to day work I try to improve. There have been circumstances like today, where we have a player drop out of the squad before the game, or a player who gets injured during the game. We've had to make substitutions for niggling injuries to players, or as a precaution. In the end, that means that less frequently featured players are having more prominent roles. We have to trust in the entire squad that we have, who are giving their all. I am of coure still optimistic that this daily work and improvement -which we've seen in some games- gives us better results in the future."
Change of formation
"The formation was what we put together in the time available. There wasn't time between one game and another. With the players we had available, we believed that it was the best option."
Effort and hard work
"I feel bad because the effort that is being made isn't being turned into results. That makes me frustrated and worried about the team's situation. We will continue working, because what the team need the most is work, experience and continued improvement."
