Ferran Torres was only 18 when he made his debut in the UEFA Champions League against BSC Young Boys on October 23rd, 2018. The Champions League has special significance for the VCF Academy product. Torres became the youngest player to score for the Club in the UEFA Champions League against LOSC Lille at Mestalla on October 23rd, 2019, when he was aged 19 years, 8 months and 7 days. If that was not enough, he scored again in the UEFA Champions League against Atalanta BC in the 2019/20 knockout stages of the competition.
In a clear display of Meriton’s commitment to talent from the VCF Academy, Torres’ was called up to the senior team in January 2018, when he was only 17 years old. Since then, Torres had broken another record by being the youngest player to reach 50 La Liga games for Valencia CF, overtaking Club legend and Ambassador, Miguel Tendillo.
Torres remains a clear example of the potential of young players when trust and confidence is placed in them to perform at the elite level of football.
At the international level, the midfielder has played the Under-17s and Under-19s European Championships with Spain, including a masterclass in the final of the latter competition, scoring two goals against Portugal. He was also featured in the Under-21s, opening the door to the possibility of a spot in the full senior side for the European Championships next year.
Through Meriton’s unwavering belief in the VCF Academy’s young talents, Torres has become one of the players from his generation, to have played the most minutes played in the five big European leagues.
