Mestalla brimming with emotions running high
Relive the emotional events that took place in the run-up to Valencia CF-Real Betis to pay tribute to the victims and those affected by the tragic flash floods
Wednesday night's 3-2 defeat against Atletico Madrid marked 100 official games since coach Marcelino Garcia Toral took charge of Valencia CF, his longevity being a further demonstration of his excellent work over the past two years.
The Spanish boss was handed the reins of VCF in May of 2017, and a century of official matches have taken place since then in LaLiga, the Copa del Rey, the Champions League and the UEFA Europa League. Whilst Marcelino has not been in the dugout for all of them -due to suspensions and injuries suffered in a serious car accident in December of 2017- he has planned for each of the 100 games alongside assistant Rubén Uria and the rest of his coaching staff.
His record as VCF coach is 50 victories, 28 draws and 22 defeats, with 149 goals scored and 93 conceded.
Marcelino's time at Valencia CF is his second longest tenure at any team, behind only his 177 games in charge at Villarreal CF. In all, he has overseen 738 official encounters, in a coaching career spanning over two decades and stretching back to July of 1997 at Lealtad.
Only five LaLiga coaches have been in place for more games at their current clubs than Marcelino: Atletico Madrid's Diego Simeone with 425, Joaquín Caparrós for Sevilla (236 - 6 in his third spell) José Luis Mendilibar at Eibar (205 - 162 in his second spell), Real Madrid's Zinedine Zidane (212 - 6 in his second spell) and FC Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde (112)
