Duro: "We're going to give our all against FC Barcelona to make the fans happy"
The striker talks to VCF Media
Hugo Duro, the scorer of the second goal against Real Sociedad, talked to VCF Media after the final whistle.
The game
“It was a rollercoaster ride. After going 3-2 and being a man down, the team kept fighting, waiting for our chances, and we were clinical in front of goal. The reward was the win and the chance to fight for a European spot on the final matchday.”
Showing courage
“We had constant setbacks: In the fifth minute, Real Sociedad scored, they came back against us, took the lead, and we had one player less. These were our own mistakes that we have to look at, but we have to focus on the positives because the grit the team showed is admirable. A tough match is coming up now and we have to win it.”
The final matchday against FC Barcelona
"It's a shame that on Matchday 37 we have to talk about us staying up; we can't afford that as a squad, as a club. We need to be talking more about qualifying for Europe because I look at this squad, this club, and these fans, and we have to be up there."
Europe
“We have to win, and we have to focus on our own game. It's one last effort from everyone: The players and the fans. We've had a tough year and we have this little bit of hope, so we're going to give it our all to win. After Thursday's game against Rayo and the atmosphere, and not being able to give the fans the victory, we have one last chance to end the season with a good feeling and wait for that prize I've been fighting for these past five years. It's a little bit of hope, for the fans and the squad. This is our last year at Mestalla, we have to do it.”
His goal
“I’m happy because I’ve had a very tough year. It’s been hard to help the team, I haven’t felt comfortable on a personal level, and this is a final release of tension. I have to give much more, and I have the ability to do so. I owe a lot to this club that have helped me so much, and I hope that next week we’ll have something to celebrate and I’ll be shouting and crying with joy because we've achieved what we all want.”
