Gayà: "It's always good to start by scoring points"
The captain gives his views on the 1-1 draw against Real Sociedad
José Luis Gayà gave a captain's view of Valencia CF's season opener to VCF Media.
Very high pace
It didn't look like a league opener, because the pace was very high, and the second half was a back-and-forth affair. We're just getting started after a preseason in which we didn't play many games, and it was a shame not to get the three points, but the team put in the effort, left everything on the pitch, and we could have won.
The team's reaction
We started the second half better, and when we took the lead, they scored right away, three minutes later. That's difficult to manage, because the opponents came back after just equalising, and then they had their moment, but we recovered and finished the game in their box, pushing hard. It's a shame that Copete's shot didn't go in, because it would have given us the victory and the three points we were chasing until the end.
The right path
We're going to continue to insist on the things we do well and improve the things we didn't do well today. That's the path to follow. We saw a team that went all out for the game, that competed at our best. We had our chances, and now we're looking ahead to the next game, which will also be difficult. It's a point to start the season with; we would have liked three, but it's always good to start by getting points.
Mestalla
It's going to be a tough and demanding season, and we need the fans to be as strong as they were today. We have to ask little of them, because they're always there, and what we have to do is show what we can do on the pitch. We're fully committed, we're going to fight for every game until the end, as we saw today, and we'll give it our all. We can win, draw, or lose, but we'll always have the desire, the motivation, and the physical effort, and that's what we're committed to.
