Valencia CF will take part in the first Retro Matchday organised by LALIGA

Players from 38 clubs will play Matchday 31 of LALIGA EA SPORTS and Matchday 35 of LALIGA HYPERMOTION with new jerseys inspired by historic editions

Valencia CF will take part in the first Retro Matchday of LALIGA, which will take place from 10 to 13 April 2026, an unprecedented action in European professional football: the players from 38 clubs in LALIGA EA SPORTS and LALIGA HYPERMOTION will take to the pitch with new jerseys inspired by iconic editions from their past, also accompanied by the referees, who will wear a special design through the Referees’ Technical Committee (CTA) of the RFEF.

The LALIGA Retro Matchday is born as a tangible expression of “a very alive legacy”, turning the history of the clubs into an experience that is felt, celebrated and also worn on the pitch. The historic jerseys, reinterpreted for the current competition, act as a bridge between generations, connecting the origins of the fans with the way football is lived today. An initiative that brings football and fashion together on the pitch itself, positioning LALIGA as the only one of the five major European leagues to promote a joint action of this kind.

During Matchday 31 of LALIGA EA SPORTS, in which Valencia CF will visit Elche CF at the Martínez Valero Stadium, and Matchday 35 of LALIGA HYPERMOTION, 38 LALIGA clubs will join this initiative, wearing new retro jerseys inspired by historic models from their trajectory.

THE COLLECTION THAT WILL NEVER GO OUT OF STYLE

The LALIGA Retro Matchday shapes “the collection that will never go out of style”, a proposal that turns the history of clubs into a contemporary trend. The participating jerseys will be presented next Thursday, 19 March, at MBFWMadrid, bringing the legacy of Spanish football to one of the main international showcases of the creative industry. A natural union between football and fashion that goes beyond the pitch and places the identity of the clubs at the centre of the cultural conversation.

Jaime Blanco, Director of the LALIGA Clubs Office, highlighted that “the Retro Matchday is a unique opportunity to pay tribute to the history of our clubs and to the symbols that have marked several generations of fans. It is a way of bringing the past to the present and continuing to build experiences and forge the legacy that emotionally connects with the fans. That this collection is presented at the Great Week of Spanish Fashion is the perfect showcase to project that identity beyond the pitch and place football at the centre of the cultural and creative conversation”.

A 360º EXPERIENCE BEYOND THE PITCH

The LALIGA Retro Matchday will extend beyond the jerseys and the matches themselves, becoming a transversal initiative that will involve clubs, talents, legends, sponsors and different actors from the LALIGA ecosystem. Among them, the LEGENDS collection, The Home of Football, a unique space that already gathers the history of world football and that will be a main protagonist of this project in the coming months.

The audiovisual experience will incorporate graphics adapted to the retro style, with a specific visual identity that will bring this narrative to the television and digital environment, while different physical and digital activations will amplify the reach of the matchday, before and after it. In addition, in the coming weeks the designs of the jerseys that the participating clubs will wear will be revealed. A global staging that reinforces the coherence of the action and turns the Retro Matchday into a shared celebration of the past and present of football.

This initiative is part of the campaign ‘42 legacies, 42 ways to win’, which highlights how passion for a club is transmitted, inherited and transformed over time. Through this themed matchday, LALIGA reinforces its commitment to preserving the identity of its clubs and to continuing to build experiences that celebrate the past without stopping looking towards the future.
