Statements from the Andalusian midfielder after signing for VCF Mestalla
Mario González has become the first signing for VCF Mestalla ahead of the 2025/26 season. The Malaga-born midfielder joins the Valencia CF reserve team as a free agent after spending the last few seasons in the youth ranks of Granada CF, where he shared the dressing room with striker Mario Domínguez—who will now be his teammate once again at the VCF Academy.
MOTIVATED AND HAPPY
“I’m more eager than ever. I’m really happy to be here and I’m ready to work hard. It’s a beautiful challenge. I’m thankful for the opportunity you’ve given me. It will also be tough, because I’m leaving behind a place where I’ve been for many years, but I’m really excited and I’m going to give it my all.”
REUNITED WITH MARIO DOMÍNGUEZ
“I have a great relationship with him. I’ve known him for eight years, since his last season at Granada. We’ve spoken every day since then—we trust each other a lot and now we’ll be playing together again. He played a big part in my decision to sign, because he really supported me, told me how important this club is and how much it values its youth players. For any young player, it’s a dream to debut with the first team. In fact, I saw the wall with the names of all the players who have debuted, and I think Mario Domínguez is number 107.”
AMBITIOUS
“Every season new players come in and others leave, but we’re going to fight for our objective.”
VERSATILITY IN MIDFIELD
“I can play as an attacking midfielder, a central midfielder, a number six, and I’ve even played as a winger a couple of times. Football is very physical nowadays, and that physicality has to help both in possession and in defence.”
