Valencia CF and RCD Espanyol played out a 1-1 draw in Matchday 33 of LALIGA EA Sports on Tuesday at Mestalla. Puado opened the scoring for the Catalan side in the first half, but after the break, Valencia CF pushed forward. Javi Guerra netted the equalizer, and Gayà nearly found the winner with a late header.
Valencia CF had the first real chance of the match in the 11th minute with a shot that sailed over the crossbar. Enzo Barrenechea attempted to surprise Joan García, following a bold run by César Tárrega, who broke lines from the back, earning applause from the Mestalla crowd.
In a tightly contested first half, it was Espanyol who struck first in the 40th minute. Puado redirected a free-kick from Edu Expósito at the near post to make it 0-1.
Valencia came out stronger in the second half and steadily increased the pressure. Just before the hour mark, Luis Rioja played a smart through ball into the box for Javi Guerra, who placed his shot into the far corner to beat the goalkeeper and level the match (1-1), continuing his fine individual form.
With the draw, Valencia CF remain unbeaten and will aim to return to winning ways in their next match against UD Las Palmas.
