Corberán: "We have to keep growing and evolving against cd eldense"

The coach previews Tuesday's Copa del Rey clash

Valencia CF coach, Carlos Corberán, spoke in an interview ahead of the Copa del Rey game against CD Eldense at the Nuevo Pepico Amat.

Identity

“The goal is to continue growing, to continue taking steps forward, to continue evolving this idea of how we want to play, to be a team who are balanced in defence between aggressiveness and solidity, and a team capable, with the ball, of having control while seeking progress in the opposition half. In the last game we showed some of the identifying features that we want the team to show, and each game for us is a next step that has to make us grow as a team."

Playing CD Eldense

“It's an opportunity; an opportunity to continue taking these steps, an opportunity also to assess the competitive level of the squad, to better understand the competitive capacity of the players, of the footballers that make up the group that we have, with whom we are working. We have a priority, but we are also aware that this is an official match and we are representing  Valencia Club de Fútbol, and we have to continue evolving in the idea of how we play the game."

CD Eldense

“For me, first of all, as a club, Eldense are a club that have grown a lot, and the growth they have had in recent years deserves a lot of credit. What I have seen from the games I have watched is a team that compete with great dignity in the Segunda División. They are a very aggressive team in defence, a team that like to go at you and make the game very uncomfortable in attack. They eliminated Cádiz in the previous round, come off taking points with teams that are in the playoff spots in the Segunda División, and are a motivated side playing at home. They will also have the same enthusiasm that we have to move on to the next round. We are aware that they are not going to gift us anything and that we have to continue evolving our idea to move on to the next round."

Competition within the squad

“We are part of the same competition, and it is the format of the Copa del Rey. We are going to evaluate the situation for the next match, to make decisions that help us to put out a side that is as competitive as possible to achieve the objective -which is obviously going to be to look competitive and to continue growing with respect to the previous match.

A team can be competitive over a season when players take onboard the ideas of how to play, because everyone is always needed, both as starters and from the bench. The objective tomorrow is to evaluate the capacity of the group and to see the competitive capacity of the players that we put on the field."

Sadiq

“Sadiq is ready to compete. He is a player who has come in with the attitude that any player has to come to Valencia Club de Fútbol with, and that is the mentality of helping out. All the new players that might join are more than welcome and they must come with that self-demand and aware of the responsibility that we have, aware that we are going to demand the maximum from them -because that is the commitment that we have to our club. He is ready to compete and if necessary he will be able to help the team."

The aim

“Our objective in each match will always be to be as competitive as possible. We are aware of what our priority and our objective as a club is, but the objective of evolving in the Copa del Rey is not incompatible with that priority. In fact, increasing the number of matches allows you to go deeper into the level of knowledge of the players, and lets less frequently used players get minutes. Players who played in the last match will continue to establish ideas, concepts, behaviours and principles of play that we try to implement in the team, so it's an opportunity that allows us to continue competing in an official match."
