Three trophy wins in Seville
Valencia CF are targeting their ninth Copa del Rey this weekend, and the venue for the final is a city that has seen its fair share of successes for the club. Of the 22 trophies won throughout their history, three have been achieved in Seville -curiously, each one at a different stadium.
The first of the trophies won in the Andalusian capital was at La Cartuja, the venue for this year's decisive game. In 1999, they won the Copa del Rey after beating Atletico Madrid 0-3 in the final, with a goal from Mendieta and a brace by Claudio López. The latter will be a special guest of the club at the final on April 23rd.
Five years later, in May 2004, the Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán hosted the match in which Valencia CF became LaLiga champions. In that title-clinching contest against Sevilla, goals from Vicente Rodríguez and Rubén Baraja earned victory.
The third of the trophies won in Seville was at the Benito Villamarín, the home of this year's finalists Real Betis. The opposition in the 2019 Copa del Rey final were FC Barcelona, whom Valencia CF beat 2-1 with goals from Kevin Gameiro and Rodrigo Moreno.
