E. Barrenechea: “We’re really angry. Even the Deportivo Alavés players were saying it wasn’t a penalty”
Valencia CF midfielder reflects on the defeat against Deportivo Alavés
Carlos Soler scored his fifth goal of the season in the game against Athletic Club, and all five have come from the penalty spot.
The midfielder has 100% accuracy from 11 metres, having converted every spot kick that he has been entrusted with this year. He holds the record for the joint most penalties scored this season, along with Real Sociedad's Mikel Oyarzabal. Curiously enough, Oyarzabal is a good friend of Soler's and he has a long tradition of practicing penalties with him when away with the Spanish Under-21s national team.
Soler's quintet of penalties have come at Mestalla, including one against Getafe and his history-making hat trick against Real Madrid at the beginning of November.
He is Valencia CF's top goalscorer in 2020/21, and has also provided three assists so far this term -the most recent of which setting up Manu Vallejo to score late on in the Matchday 13 fixture.
