Second best turnout for a first home game in the last 5 years

The fans were out in force for Valencia CF's first LaLiga game of the 2019/20 season, with an attendance of 41,846 at Mestalla on Saturday night.
Supporters were not dissuaded by hot temperatures and the fact that the game was played during the August bank holiday weekend, and provided the stadium with its second largest first home game attendance of the last five years.
The only home debut at Mestalla to see more fans turn out in that time was last year's encounter with Atletico Madrid, witnessed in the flesh by 49,069 people.
In 2015/16, against Deportivo La Coruña, 38.266 came to Mestalla for the Matchday 2 game. In 2016/17, 37,203 watched Valencia CF against Las Palmas, whilst the following season against the same opponents there were 36,019 in attendance.
A strong showing was on the cards this year, with a terrific atmosphere created at the previous week's bwin Trofeo Naranja game.
