Rodrigo: "The nicest thing about the Copa win was the celebration afterwards"
May 25th marks exactly one year since Valencia CF won the Copa del Rey in Seville, beating FC Barcelona at the Benito Villamarín. The trophy triumph was the perfect way to celebrate the club’s Centenary year, and was their first piece of silverware for 11 seasons.
This Sunday, VCF MEDIA are showing the final in its entirety at 4pm and 10pm CEST, on both the club app and the official website www.valenciacf.com.
Rodrigo Moreno, the scorer of one of the team’s two goals that day, provided his memories of the Copa del Rey final in an interview earlier this week.
“If I had to describe it in a word, then it would be 'joy'. It was a day of joy for everybody, as after so many years we were able to win a trophy again. We put Valencia CF on top again, in a game against great opposition,” said the striker, who was able to make a special dedication after he found the net.
“It was an unforgettable moment. It was also the first goal that I dedicated to my daughter. It came from a great pass by Coquelin for Carlos Soler. I don't know what Carlos had done that day, but he had the extra ‘turbo boost’ on. He's always got the turbo, but he was even faster on that day. The finish was all about sticking my head in there, because it was a very intense move and the only way of getting the ball past Piqué and Jasper was with my head.”
The Valencia CF fans at the stadium in Seville made plenty of noise throughout the day, and Rodrigo and his teammates were able to celebrate with them -and with those waiting back at Mestalla upon their return.
“At the final whistle there was euphoria and joy. There was a feeling of a job well done, of great emotion. Everything runs through your mind: The moments of difficulty that we had been through during the season, enjoying it with everybody who had come to Seville, and having done something historic for the club after so long.”
“The nicest thing for everybody was the celebration afterwards, sharing it with everybody in the stadium behind the goal and singing into the microphone. Afterwards, there was our arrival at Valencia airport and our journey to the stadium, with people cheering from their balconies and crowding the streets.”
