On A Day Like Today: Versatile Castellanos plays his final game for Valencia CF

On April 20th, 1986, Ángel Castellanos played his final game for Valencia CF. He was a member of a side that defined an era at Mestalla, winning the Copa del Rey, European Cup Winners Cup and Spanish Supercopa, and played for ten seasons as a regular starter under every coach who took charge.
Versatile and an expert at winning the ball back and supporting his teammates, he showed committment and competitiveness in every game.
Castellanos arrived in Valencia in the summer of 1976 under Pasieguito, playing as a centre back, and would change positions several times over the course of his career. He was moved to a defensive midfield spot, allowing the likes of Saura, Subirats, Solsona and Kempes ahead of him the freedom to attack.
In his decade at Valencia CF, Castellanos played almost 500 games (official matches and friendlies), before making his final appearance on April 20th, 1986. His swansong was on Matchday 34 of the LaLiga season against Cadiz at Mestalla, a game that VCF would win 1-0.
