On April 3rd, 1949, Valencia CF achieved the biggest victory over Athletic Club in their history, besting the Basque side 5-0 at home.
Scoring the goals were Silvestre Igoa, Pasieguito (2), Mundo and Epi, setting the scene for a Copa final between the two teams held 56 days later -in which the club would win their second cup honour.
The full lineup consisted of Eizaguirre, Álvaro Pérez, Monzó, Puchades, Pasieguito, Horacio Herrero, Silvestre Igoa, Vicente Seguí, Epi, Asensi and Mundo, and despite their talent and league position, they were consisdered the underdogs against an Athletic who were renowned for dominating their opposition.
It took just 8 minutes for Pasieguito to put VCF ahead, and another strike from him before half time doubled the advantage. In the second half there was a flurry of goals after Epi's 70th minute finish, whilst Igoa found the net with five minutes to go and Mundo scored his 19th goal of the season in the 87th minute.
The Valencia CF side of 1948/49 finished second in LaLiga that season, just 2 points behind FC Barcelona.
