Maxi Gómez: "I dreamt of playing Champions League football as a kid, and now I get the chance with VCF"
Maxi Gómez completed a whirlwind few days with his official presentation at Mestalla on Wednesday evening, and took the time to explain more about his move to Valencia CF. The Uruguayan revealed that the club were one of several to express interest, and that the possibility of Champions League football was a big enticement.
The week before his signing
"They were some really tough days. There was talk of both Valencia CF and West Ham wanting to sign me, but I was focused on the Copa America. I left it to my agent to talk with them, and I chose Valencia CF because I like them and they are in several competitions. I feel very much at home here. I hope to be able to perform at my best for Valencia CF."
What he offers to the team
"I'm happy to be here in Valencia, and now I'm set on training and giving my all for the club. I want to do something big at a club like Valencia CF."
Other interested teams
"There were many big teams that contacted me. There was talk of FC Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, English clubs... but when I heard of Valencia CF's interest, it was my first option."
The Champions League
"I can't wait. I haven't had much in the way of holidays because of the Copa America, and I was able to come to Valencia CF early. I'd dreamed of playing in the Champions League as a kid, two years ago I was playing in it in videogames, and now I'm going to play in the competition for real with Valencia CF. I'm very calm and I'll try to help the team, which is what I'm here to do."
Defining Maxi Gómez
"I like to get into the box. I like getting involved in the buildup as well. I'm technically sound and I will try to offer as much as I can -especially goals."
Teammates
"It's very nice to be here with my teammates. Everyone is very good. They won the Copa del Rey and they've shown that they are at a high level. I enjoy playing with all of them."
