Match Report: VCF Mestalla suffer first loss of the season amidst battling away performance at Orihuela CF (2-1)
VCF Mestalla were back in action on Sunday the 8th of November on the road against Orihuela CF on matchday 4 of Segunda B group III B at Los Arcos Municipal ground at 5 pm kick-off.
Valencia CF Mestalla withstood the home side’s early pressure who came out in search of an early goal with dangerous crosses into the box from both wings but nobody connected them.
Óscar Fernández side tried to dictate play and dominate as time ticked along in a very disruptive passage of play with plenty of stoppages from both sides who were trying to settle.
The first VCF Mestalla chance fell to Hugo González who won the ball back in the middle third but his shot from the 18-yard box was kept out by Doriano to make amends for a previous mistake.
Orihuela CF responded at the other end through Toché’s dangerous weak effort which kissed the post.
The game opened up with a Pablo Gozálbez wonder strike which caught out Leandro from 33 yards out after a free kick which was quickly taken in midfield and after a swift exchange, Pablo Gozálbez tried his luck lashing a powerful right footed drive into the top corner to break the deadlock on 35 minutes.
VCF Mestalla edged Orihuela CF at the break.
VCF Mestalla came out in the second half looking to extend their lead and Facundo González came close to scoring following a corner kick but he headed it over the crossbar.
Toché made it 1-1 to Orihuela on the hour mark and came close to grabbing a brace but Unai pulled off a magnificent reaction save to keep the scoreline at 1-1.
VCF Mestalla returnee, Marc Ferris, brought a save out Leandro and then a heavily protested call against Doriano on Edu Mingotes who was brought down by the Orihuela keeper alas,the referee awarded an attacking foul.
The home side turned it around late on through Solano who made it 2-1 to Orihuela CF as the final whistle blew and VCF unbeaten run came to an end despite their spirited performance which came unrewarded.
