Match Report: VCF Mestalla rescue late draw away at La Nucía (1-1)

A late Fran Navarro strike earns VCF Mestalla a point to go unbeaten for their third successive fixture ahead of the Christmas break.

Valencia CF Mestalla took on CF La Nucía for their final fixture of 2020 on matchday 8 of group III B of segunda B at 5pm kick-off time which ended in a 1-1 draw where CF La Nucía got themselves in front through a rather arguable penalty call early in the first half and was cancelled out through a Fran Navarro equaliser in the closing minutes of the second half.

Óscar Fernández named an unchanged side from the one that comprehensively beat cross-town opposition Atletico Levante last weekend looking for a similar approach however the home side started with plenty of oomph about them who found themselves 1-0 up from 12 yards out through Fofo.

The home side came close to scoring a quickfire second through an Iván Forte effort which rattled the crossbar. However, VCF Mestalla took full charge of proceedings from then on as the floodgates opened.

VCF Mestalla had a spate of chances first an Emaná header and then a Hugo González lateral free-kick which crashed against the crossbar and lastly a free Koba Lein header which whistled over the crossbar.

Valencia CF Mestalla trailed CF La Nucía at Mestalla.

The same script followed in the second half as VCF Mestalla enjoyed a dangerous double chance following two Jesús Vázquez surging runs down the left wing-one going into the side-netting and the latter brining a save out of Óscar Fornés.

VCF Mestalla stamped further authority on the game as the second half wore off pegging back the home side inside their own box enjoying a staggering total of 11 corner kicks.

Just as Valencia CF were heading on course for an away loss. Valencia CF Mestalla were an awarded a spot-kick but the keeper denied Carlos González from twelve yards out. But with two minutes of regulation time plus stoppage time remaining Fran Navarro rescued a point in a dramatic manner. But the goal was finally awarded but the official awarded despite the linesman’s indications.

Valencia CF Mestalla end the year on a positive note on a three-match unbeaten run. Valencia CF Mestalla will open 2021 hosting CD Alcoyano in their final game of the first team of the season.
