Match Report: VCF Mestalla fall to home defeat against UE Olot (0-1)
VCF Mestalla played on Saturday evening against UE Olot on matchday 2 of the second phase which ended in 0-1 defeat to UE Olot with the only clear-cut chance in front of goal.
Both sides came out looking to dominate possession with the away side dominating possession against a depleted VCF Mestalla in midfield with major absentees in the manner of Esquerdo, K. Koba Leïn and Facu García
VCF Mestalla tried to bring the ball out from the back despite the away side’s stifling high pressure by playing long balls into Fran Navarro or probing down thw channels through Fran Pérez.
Pablo Gozálbez and Fran Navarro tested the away keeper a few times but the Catalán keeper was equal to them.
The first half finished goalless with all to play for in the second half.
The game opened up in the second half and as time wore on, there was more and more urgency about the game. Óscar Fernández made a double change bringing on Hugo González and Carlos Pérez for Fran Pérez and David Ruiz.
The away side got themselves in front with ten minutes of regulation time plus injury time remaining. Eloi Amagat made it 0-1 to UE Olot.
VCF Mestalla tried to get something out of the game through Hugo González’s effort and Xavi Estacio’s inviting cross which Fran Navarro could not quite reach in the closing stages alas, the game ended in a 0-1 defeat.
