Match Report | Valencia CF lose out to CD Castellón in commemorative centenary friendly (1-0)
Valencia CF took on CD Castellon on Wednesday the 3rd of August at 8:45 pm kickoff time at the Estadio Municipal de Castalia as part of a commemorative match of CD Castellón's centenary.
Valencia CF had a slow start to the game in the opening stages of the first half struggling to find a foothold going forward.
On the other hand, the opposition came out looking to take charge of proceedings on the break and the home side broke the deadlock over the quarter-hour mark through Kialy Abdoul Koné.
Valencia CF dictated play after the opposition’s opening goal and kept on pushing for the equaliser. Alas, they found it difficult to open up the CD Castellón’s defence or make positive inroads in the final third.
Valencia CF trailed CD Castellón by a 1-0 scoreline at halftime at the Estadio Municipal de Castalia.
Roles reversed after the restart with Valencia with CF looking to tear away with quick passing and fast breaks in the opening minutes of the second half.
The game saw a spell of one-sided football Valencia CF looking to play their way through the CD Castellón’s defence.
Gennaro Gattuso made wholesale changes over the hour mark looking to equalise after having handed Samuel Lino his debut a few minutes earlier.
José Luis Gayà came mighty close to pouncing on a defensive let-off from close range as they kept on looking to break down the steely CD Castellon’s defence.
Minutes later, Samuel Lino tested the CD Castellón goalkeeper with a powerful right-footed drive as Gattuso’s side kept on penning the opposition inside their own area with Lino and Guedes as Valencia CF’s main attacking outlets.
Alas, Valencia CF could not find a way past CD Castellón and not for the lack of trying despite their valiant spell in the closing minutes of the game and the game ended in a 1-0 narrow away loss to CD Castellón.
Valencia CF will host Atalanta BC on Saturday the 6th of August at 9 pm kick-off time at Mestalla in the 50th edition of the Trofeu Taronja curtain raiser where Gattuso’s side will be looking to end their preseason on a high note in front of the Valencia CF faithful.
