Valencia CF welcomed Getafe CF in midweek action at Mestalla at 8 pm kick-off on Matchday 5 of LaLiga Santander. Valencia CF did not have the start to the game they would have hoped for as Getafe got themselves in front in the opening minute through Jaime Mata from close range.
Things took a turn for the worse when Kevin Gameiro was forced off the field due to injury just ten minutes into the first period and was replaced by Maximiliano Gómez as Valencia CF were on the back foot.
The first Valencia CF chance fell to Francis Coquelin who flashed his shot wide over the 15-minute mark. Moments later impact substitute sprung off the bench to turn the game on its head. First smashing home a bouncing ball with a spectacular overhead kick following a Kang-In delivery which went in off the post and minutes later, the Uruguayan popped up at the far post to nod in a free header to put Valencia CF in front.
Goals galore as minutes later, Kang-In put Valencia CF two goals to the good after a brilliant Rodrigo Moreno square pass and the South Korean Academy product slotted it home beyond two Getafe defenders inside the near post to delight the home crowd and score his first senior in LaLiga goal for Valencia CF.
The first half finished 3-1 for Albert Celades’ side thanks to a brilliant Maxi Gómez’s brace and another one by Kang In in a brilliant first-half performance.
The opening minutes of the second half were sloppy and stagnant as both sides were trying to get a foothold of the second period with chances few and far between for either side.
The away side cut the deficit through Valencia CF loanee Jason Remesseiro who flicked it beyond Jaume over the hour mark. Ángel Rodríguez made it three apiece to restore parity just two minutes later, volleying it past Jaume on 66 minutes as momentum shifted for the away side.
Following Getafe’s equaliser, Valencia CF suffered another two set-backs as Kondogbia ambled off the pitch and Valencia CF penalty shouts for a Cucurella goal-line handball were waved away by the referee.
