Marcelino: "We provided the hard work and the effort to achieve victory"
Marcelino García Toral was pleased with the victory for Valencia CF against his former club Sevilla FC, and spoke after the Sunday afternoon contest at the Sánchez Pizjuán.
The result
“These are three more points in a tough fight to achieve our objective. For us, winning here was a very good result, but not definitive. We provided the hard work and the effort to achieve victory. Each side dominated a half: In the first it was us, and Sevilla were better in the second. They are a very strong side at home. We could have made it 0-2 with Kevin's shot, and we provided further danger, but Sevilla pushed us hard. I'm very satisfied with the result, with the effort we put in and with the great job done by the team."
A close game
"We all knew that this game was important. In the second half we lacked a bit of possession and lost the ball a little too much when bringing the ball upfield, missing out on chances that would have created a lot of danger had the passes gone through. Sevilla pressed a lot. For me, it's more credit to Sevilla than a failing of ours. We are two very evenly-matched sides, and we took advantage of a chance in the first half."
Valencia CF always competitive
"We've gone 16 games in a row without losing, and we also have 16 draws in LaLiga. It seems as if 16 is our number, but I hope to change that next week with another victory. Valencia CF have shown that we are very competitive. These players -and I repeat, it's the players- have managed to turn around the bad dynamic we had in the first half of the season. Now we are able to score goals, whereas before we drew many games that we deserved to win."
