Marcelino: "This game will demand intensity and collective commitment"

In the run-up to Valencia CF's game against RCD Espanyol, Marcelino spoke to the media to preview the Sunday game at Mestalla (4:15pm CET)

Following up the win against Celtic

Whenever you win, the team are mentally in good shape. Physically, we'll try and save a few players however we can, and tomorrow a lot of different players will appear to those who featured in Glasgow on Thursday -performing extraordinarily well. We're focused on LaLiga, which is what we want to do. We want to beat Espanyol in order to move up the league table, as well as confirming the good results that we have been taking recently in LaLiga. If we win, then I believe it will be 8 points from a possible 12, after some very tough away games. Right now our focus is entirely on Espanyol, and we're going to use all six senses to win.

Fourth place

We know that at the end of the season, if we manage to get victories now, we will be fighting for the Champions League spots. But the essential thing is to win the next game, which in this case is against Espanyol. We can't let many points slip, but what we want more than anything is to win at home. We've won very few games at home, even though we've only lost one. There have been many draws, so we need to convert the play that has meant that we deserved to win a lot of those games into victories. One such game was the loss to Girona, which is a situation in which we needed to convert our chances into goals to take the three points.

RCD Espanyol

They are a dynamic side who play very well going forward. They run their play through Borja Iglesias and also have some very good wingers. Now they are without Pablo Piatti and Leo Baptistao, who play well on the counter and who are out injured. In the first game they were the better side, but having watched the game again it was fairly evenly-matched. This game will demand intensity and great collective commitment, and we'll need the support of the fans. It will be difficult to dominate for 90 minutes as Espanyol have good players and a good offensive dynamic. We hope that we have the attacking efficiency that we didn't have against Real Sociedad and are able to win.

Neto

It will depend on what the player and the doctors decide as to whether Neto will play or not. If he feels ok and the doctors confirm that there is no risk of the injury being worsened, then we will decide based on that. We haven't got much time, as it's only 48 hours since the injury, so we will see how he progresses. We will never put a player's health at risk.
