Kondogbia: "It was a great game for us"
A great goal from Geoffrey Kondogbia put Valencia CF on course for victory against LOSC Lille on a momentous European night at Mestalla. The midfielder talked about his first ever goal at the stadium in a post-match interview with Spanish television channel Movistar+ Liga de Campeones.
"We needed to win tonight. It was a very important game for us if we wanted to continue in the Champions League. We did a great job, scored, pressed and won. It was a great game for us," he said.
"Every team has their ups and downs within a game. This is the Champions League, so it's normal for the opposition to generate chances, but we were the better side. We need to continue fighting and work hard to win again against Granada CF at the weekend," he added.
"I'd never scored at Mestalla, so it was a great night for me and I hope to score many more. This game was important, but now we are going to focus on LaLiga. We have to win to pick up points. Besides that, we are going to fight to stay in the Champions League."
Asked if this would be a turning point for the team, Kondogbia explained that there will be the same approach as always for the players.
"In football, when you win it gives you a little more confidence. We have to look at what we haven't done so well too, and we're going to do that and keep the same humility and will to improve that we always do."
"I've had injuries that have slowed me down, but with the support of the team I'm going to get better. I have the trust of the entire team."
