VCF Legend Mario Kempes is back in Valencia this week for the Centenary celebrations, and on Wednesday he presented his new autobiography 'Matador' at Mestalla.
There could be few better venues for the launch, as the Argentine himself acknowledged, saying that the stadium was "my home."
He was accompanied by his wife Julia and his children, as well as fellow former players such as Ricardo Arias and Dario Felman. Kempes commented on his experience of the Centenary, and the wonderful scenes that have taken place in the city to mark Valencia CF's 100 years of history.
"It's really beautiful to come home, spend time with the people here and celebrate the Centenary," he said. "On Monday we saw something very beautiful, and as we went from street to street, more and more people joined us. It was amazing. I had never imagined that people would have still have so much love for the Valencia CF flag. The one that I was carrying was a replica, but the image was still powerful. It was very beautiful and very emotional."
"You aren't just a footballer. There is also how you are as a person. Those two things can't be separate. I can walk through Valencia with my head held high, because I gave everything for the club. You can be very famous, but you have to keep your feet on the ground."
Kempes will be one of the VCF Legends in action this Sunday at Mestalla, in the special game against the Spain Legends.
