Javier Solís: "We have experienced a real embarrassment today with the refereeing"
The Corporate Director of Valencia CF, Javier Solís, talked to Spanish TV channel DAZN after Valencia CF's defeat to Sevilla FC, expressing deep discomfort from the club with the refereeing by Mr. Del Cerro Grande.
The refereeing
We are absolutely disgusted, absolutely annoyed. We have experienced something that is a real embarrassment today with the refereeing. It was not only the penalty that they denied us. It was a robbery seen in slow motion, with the VAR being involved. The referee went to look at it and, with all the arrogance in the world, he has explained to our captain how the Sevilla player's hand was positioned. We are tired of it. It stinks. It was not only the second action that could have got us back into the game, but also the first move. There was also a trip on Yunus. The referee, when he sees the footage, must have a hard time sleeping tonight. It's an embarrassment in capital letters.
Other refereeing decisions that have affected Valencia CF
We are absolutely upset and disgusted. We do not deserve the refereeing decisions that we are suffering from this season. I think I can count 17 serious VAR mistakes. The team are at the bottom and you can't just criticise the referees, but what we've seen today is a real shame, reviewing the images, the referee's posture. It's handball. I'm going to say it's a real robbery.
Making a statement
Rather than a statement, we are now talking to you. This is not about a communications war, as all the clubs are suffering with the level of refereeing in this country. I don't think I'm getting into a war over who makes the toughest statement, but it's flagrant and I have to hold back.
The fight to stay up
We will keep going. This club is huge, with 104 years of history, and we have to keep working. The situation today is against us, but tomorrow we have to come back. There are still games remaining. There are several teams at the bottom and all that remains is to work, work, work and move forward.
