VCF Mestalla assistant coach Javi Venta has been running the rule over the players upon their return to training. He spoke to VCF Media this week to explain the kind of condition the squad are in, and how excited they are to be back.
"It's always strange to get back training after so long. But it's ok. The players look to be in shape, and I think that they are very motivated and excited to get started. We've had fitness tests now, to see how each player is doing, and I'm happy with the results.
"They're all raring to go and excited. It's been a long time. Each player has been making do as best they can, but in the end what they all want to do is be here training and doing what they like most, which is playing football," said Venta.
"This first week is a bit more about touching base and seeing how they are doing. Then we have to take things gradually, because there's always the chance of injuries. As they have been away for so long, it's preferable to go steadily."
VCF Mestalla have typically provided quality players to the first team, and Venta sees this continuing in the future.
"The important thing is that the young players keep developing. We try to help them, so that they realise that they are one step away from the world of professional football. They have to act like professionals, and do everything like them on and off the pitch. That's our idea. We are here to teach them and to help them. That's our job, and I hope that we can give them the best chance possible so that they are all ready when the first team comes calling."
