'Homecoming' for Kondogbia with trip to San Siro

Geoffrey Kondogbia is amongst the few Valencia CF players with previous experience of playing Atalanta BC, the club's next opponents in the UEFA Champions League. The midfielder did so when playing for Internazionale in Serie A, and as a result also featured against this week's opposition at the San Siro (Inter's home ground, used by Atalanta in the Champions League).
One such game, held back in March of 2017, was a standout match from his time in Italy. Kondogbia played the entire 90 minutes in a 7-1 win, the most comprehensive victory to date for him in his professional career.
The goals were divided between Mauro Icardi (3), Éver Banega (3) and Roberto Gagliardini (1), but Kondogbia came close with a shot saved by the goalkeeper.
The VCF player has been on target already in the Champions League this season, with his rocket against LOSC Lille in the group stage. Besides scoring against Atletico Madrid in LaLiga this past Friday, Kondogbia has also found the net in the Champions League Last 16, doing so in 2015 against Arsenal.
The game will be a homecoming of sorts, at the historic Giuseppe Meazza that saw Kondogbia play so many times. The challenge this time around is different, but he and his Valencia CF teammates are looking to take the club one step closer to the Champions League quarter finals.
