Guillamón: "Our gameplan was working until the 40th minute"
The Valencia CF player looks back on the loss in Madrid
Hugo Guillamón assessed Valencia CF's performance at the Santiago Bernabéu in a post-match interview with VCF Media.
Analysing the game
We came here to the Bernabéu convinced that we could take a good result, after losing at home in our previous league game. Our gameplan was working until the 40th minute. We were controlling the game, waiting for them in order to go on the counter. That move just before halftime left us a little cold. In the second half we conceded very early, and the gameplan went out of the window a little.
The penalty decision
From my position on the pitch, it didn't look like a penalty. I didn't see it during halftime, but I was told that it was a very dubious one. The referee told us immediately that it had been confirmed. I think that there needs to be much more contact for such a decisive call.
Hindered by an early goal
At halftime we said that we still had time. We had conceded, but we were still in the game. However, we conceded right after the restart, which affected our gameplan. We had to fight to the end, which is what we tried to do.
A busy January
This month is a tricky one, with a lot of games. We need to recover quickly. We know that this game is gone, and we have to focus on the Copa del Rey -another competition that we are very excited about.
