Goalscorer Gómez: "I like the fight, and I don't like losing"
Having scored four goals in LaLiga since joining Valencia CF this summer, Maxi Gómez is the club's joint top marksman alongside Dani Parejo. The forward was on target again in the win over Deportivo Alavés on Matchday 8, and he spoke to VCF Media about his recent performances and the vital victory.
"I always want to score goals. I'm very grateful to my teammates, as thanks to them I was able to score," he said of his latest strike. "It was a nice move, started by Rodrigo. He played the diagonal ball and put me through on goal. I was able to find the far post, and I'm happy about the goal."
Gómez' quartet of goals have come in 7 domestic games, including his first for the club against FC Barcelona, a brace against Getafe and his Matchday 8 contribution. He is averaging a goal every 101 minutes and needing just 2.2 shots to score, a figure on a par with the likes of David Villa's first games for Valencia CF.
"I'm taking things steadily. It's very difficult to adapt to Spanish football. Several colleagues of mine told me about that beforehand. I've been progressing gradually, and joining a club like Valencia CF makes me very happy. I want to continue adapting and continue scoring goals, which is very important for the team," commented the Uruguayan, who was delighted to go into the international break with a goal and a win.
"I think that we deserved the victory, after the harsh defeat against Ajax. I think that defeat was unfair, because we had many chances on goal that weren't quite able to convert -whilst they converted their chances. I like the fight, just like any Uruguayan. We don't like losing at anything. I'm very happy with the win against Alavés -for me and for my teammates."
